Good morning!
Like you all, I’ve sat in those pews over the years and listened to dozens of seniors give their speeches, and I really thought, by now, I would’ve had a fresh perspective and better idea of what I wanted to say to leave my mark on Redeemer. Still, I struggled to come up with adequate words to express just how much this church means to me. Truthfully, they were right. It is the people in this parish constantly demonstrating God’s love that is the most impactful.
However, what stands out to me most in my time here is our Mission Trips to the Dominican Republic.
I have realized that it is not just about the materials we provide or the number of tasks we accomplish. It’s about fellowship; the time we spend interacting with those families and playing with the children in the community is priceless. An afternoon craft is more than just crayons and construction paper. It is a chance to teach the children the promise and grace of God and pour His love into their hearts. A fresh coat of paint becomes greater than just a finishing touch on a house. It gives the family an opportunity to take pride in their home. There is no way to measure how many lives we have touched, but it is worth it to witness the hope in their voices and the joy in their smiles. What matters is giving our friends a sense of value and dignity. Regardless of a language barrier, we are able to connect on a deeper, spiritual level and stand side-by-side, praising God.
Saint Michael’s Conference has also been a formative experience in my growth as a Christian. The opportunity to delve into the intellectual development of my faith in Christ, while surrounded by like-minded youth is reaffirming, comforting and indescribable.
Additionally, the relationships that I have formed during these trips are so much deeper than I ever thought possible in a week’s time; all because of the Godly foundation that they are built on.
Next year, I will be studying at Florida State University in Tallahassee. And while I know I will never find another parish like this one, I rest on the assurance found in Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
I am forever grateful to call Redeemer my home.
Thank you.
