• An Evening with Ambassador Andrew Young and World-Renowned Vocal Artist Wintley Phipps Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., 6:30 p.m.*, nave. Young was a member of Congress, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mayor of Atlanta, and key strategist and negotiator during the civil rights movement. Phipps has performed for several U.S. presidents and sang at Colin Powell’s funeral. Valet parking will be available. The event will be livestreamed. A reception will follow. • Solemn Evensong, 5:15 p.m.*, nave. Evensong will feature the music of Black composers: “Norfolk Service” by David Hurd and “Sing Unto the Lord” by Ulysses Kay. Hurd has written several hymns in the Hymnal 1982. He is director of music at Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Manhattan. Kay, nephew of jazz musician King Oliver, studied with neoclassical composer Paul Hindemith in the 1940s at the Berkshire Music Center in Massachusetts. Evensong will be in person and livestreamed.
