This summer, children will need VBS more than ever!
Although Vacation Bible School will look and feel a little different, our mission is still the same.
Children and families will learn a lot about Jesus and have fun doing so! So join us!
Who can participate? It’s designed for children who will be entering K through 5th grade in the fall.
What will VBS look like? We are excited to announce a fun, new curriculum built for this unique time, called I Will Grow with God, built around The Parable of The Three Trees. And it can happen wherever you are!
When is VBS? 3-7 Aug, at a time that best fits your family’s schedule! We recommend setting aside
the same time each day.
How does it work? VBS 2020 will be a compilation of on-line segments and in-person activities that
will add up to about two hours of faith and fun each day. It has all the pieces of a traditional VBS–story centers, music, activities, art projects, and outreach. It even has a daily “Chat with Clergy,” daily workouts with an NFL legend, segments with parishioners who grow things for their livelihood, working with a national theater troupe, and daily check-ins with Shepherds! And there will be surprises throughout the week!
In this unique time, the parish wants you to be able to safely do VBS. So a plan was developed for you to register as always, and participate as your schedule allows via a protected link on Redeemer’s website – in your living room, at the beach, or in your backyard with family and friends.
Here are the components you will discover each day during our VBS week:
“Daily Welcome” from Beth Bobb, our 2020 VBS Coordinator
“Quick Chat and Blessing” with Fr. Wood, Fr. Wilson, and Fr. Strohm
“Joyful Noise” – Music is always a big part of Redeemer’s VBS, and it will be this year as well
with Mrs. Moe, Mr, Cartlidge, and Mr. Nelson. We’ll sing VBS hits of the past, and learn new songs from “The Tale of the Three Trees.” And yes, our Aides will be there to remind us of those epic hand-
motions!
“Center Time” a different story center will be presented every day, one each by our five amazing Center Leader Teams. Activities will be part of Center Time, as always. And some of our filming has been done “on location!”
“Moving in the Morning,” Get ready to workout with an NFL legend, who is also a Redeemer parishioner!
“How Does Your Garden Grow?” Ever wonder what it takes to grow things for a living? This series of short segments with parishioners whose livelihood depends on the yield of the land: potatoes, citrus, orchids, trees & plants, and even cattle. You won’t want to miss a single one!
“Create It” – You’ll create a daily masterpiece to remember this amazing week.
“Be A Part of the Story” – Friends of the Groom, an international theater troupe from Ohio, has created a musical based on “The Tale of the Three Trees.” Even though they cannot be with us in person, they will be engaging all of us as an actual part of the story each day of VBS from their studio in Ohio, preparing us for that time when we can all together to present it at Redeemer!
Preparation and Supplies: Parents, do not fret over preparation for this event! We have you covered! As soon as you register, everything you will need for the whole week – from glue, paintbrushes, and construction paper, even down to a snack for each of the day of the week – will be placed in a box just for your child. We will hold a drive-thru pick-up on Sunday, 2 August, from 4:30-5:30 PM, the day before VBS begins, for you to pick them up, and will ship boxes to any participating children who live out of town.
VBS Outreach: We have not forgotten this all-important element! Teaching young children about caring for each other is vital, especially now. When you drive through to pick up your VBS supplies on 2 August, our VBS aides will be on-the-ready to collect your canned and boxed food items, which will be added to the shelves of the Caritas Food Pantry.
Cost? $25 for the first child in a family, and $10 for each additional child in that family. There is a
$15 upcharge for mailing supplies out of the area. We already have children registered from three additional states, and family members here in Sarasota are simply thrilled that branches of their family who live out of the area can, for the first time, be part of VBS!
Registration is now closed.
