Come to the Table: An All-Parish Sunday School Class about Peter Paul Rubens Paintings

On Sunday, January 23, Redeemer will host Come to the Table: An All-Parish Sunday School Class at 10:10 a.m. in Gillespie Hall.

Sarah Mlynek, a Redeemer parishioner and docent at The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, will teach us about Peter Paul Rubens’ paintings of the Eucharist Cycle that are part of The Ringling’s collection.

Have you always wanted to know more about the five extraordinarily large paintings at The Ringling that are part of Peter Paul Rubens’ Epic Cycle called The Triumph of the Eucharist? Sarah will share information and insights about how they came to be during the tumultuous time of the Protestant reformation and the Catholic counter-reformation. We will explore the meaning and symbolism of the sacrament of the Eucharist in these works that Rubens and his workshop created. It is a fascinating example of art and history as handmaidens to faith.

Sarah has been a docent at the Cranbrook Academy of Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and has a minor in Art History. It has been her passion to delve deeper into art by revealing information to the general public and creating an awareness.

Families are invited to attend this presentation together. We’ll have a “pick-up” activity to keep little hands busy.
