Pelican Pal flies again this summer

Redeemer’s #pelicanpal has been spotted literally around the globe!

Featuring prominently in our parish seal, did you ever wonder about the pelican being part of Redeemer’s identify?

According to an ancient tradition, mentioned by St. Augustine of Hippo, the Church is compared to a pelican in her willingness to nourish her offspring from her own body.

The imagery is appropriate for the Church of the Redeemer, not only because pelicans are abundant in and around Sarasota Bay, but also because Redeemer is the “mother parish” for every other Episcopal congregation in the Sarasota area.

And don’t forget to take #pelicanpal with you wherever you go this summer, shoot and send a “selfie” pic with Pelican Pal to staff@redeemersarasota.com, and tag your post with #pelicanpal
