Sanctuary Candle and Altar Flowers

The sanctuary candle burns in the lamp in the chapel as a sign that the Lord is always present. The sanctuary candle and the flowers at the high altar may be designated for a particular Sunday in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving for blessings received. The names of those you would like to honor will be read verbally that weekend and appear in the announcements booklet inserted into the service bulletins.

If you would like to contribute to the sanctuary candle or altar flowers, please click below and select “Sanctuary Candle” or “Altar Flowers” from the “Select a fund” drop-down menu. Add the name of the person you would like to honor in the “optional memo” field along with “IMO” for “in memory of” or “FBR” for “for blessings received.”

Memorial Gifts

If you would like to make a memorial gift in memory of a parishioner, relative, or friend, please click below and select “Memorials” from the “Select a fund” drop-down menu. Add the name of the person in the “optional memo” field.

Memorial Wall Reservation

The St. Francis Garden is the traditional site on the grounds of Church of the Redeemer for the interment of ashes of our faithful departed. The current memorial wall that displays names of the faithful departed is fully reserved. Soon a new wall will be constructed that will allow for additional permanent inscriptions.

The new memorial wall will be installed near the existing one on an exterior wall of the church. This prominent location adjacent to the St. Francis Garden is nestled along the peaceful pathway that winds between the Garden and the Hope Bell Tower. You may purchase and reserve inscription space(s) of your choice, subject to availability.

Interment in the St. Francis Garden is, and always will be, free. The current fee for a permanent inscription on the new memorial wall is $2,500 per person. This amount funds the inscription itself and helps offset the costs of maintaining the memorial wall, fountain, and grounds of the St. Francis Garden. It also supports ministries of the parish.

To reserve space for your inscription(s), contact Angela Ward by calling the parish office at 941-955-4263 or emailing her at AWard@RedeemerSarasota.org.

To make a payment for inscriptions, click below and select “Memorial Wall Reservation” from the “Select a fund” drop-down menu.

Gifts of Securities

Appreciated Securities make a wonderful gift, and you may be eligible for two-fold tax savings. First, you could avoid paying capital gains tax on the increase in value of your stock. You could also receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift. Church of the Redeemer Bookkeeper Debbie Pfender can help make a gift of stock quick and convenient. Please contact Debbie by calling the parish office at 941-955-4263 or emailing her at DPfender@RedeemerSarasota.org.

Gifts of Real Estate

If you have owned your primary residence, vacation home, acreage, or a farm for many years, a charitable gift of that real estate can be advantageous tax-wise. The property may have appreciated in value over the years, and its sale could result in a sizable capital gains tax. If given to the parish, you avoid the capital gains tax and realize a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the real estate. It also removes this large asset from your taxable estate.

Gifts of Life Insurance

If you own a life insurance policy that is no longer needed, it could be the perfect gift vehicle for a year-end charitable gift. You can contribute a life insurance policy either by declaring Church of the Redeemer as the owner of the policy or simply the beneficiary. It’s easy to contribute a life insurance policy. Please check with your life insurance agent for details on forms to complete.

Planned Giving

Through planned giving, you can help ensure Church of the Redeemer’s growth for years to come. There are many ways to remember your parish in your estate planning. Gifts are usually made through a bequest in a will, charitable gift annuity, retirement account, life insurance, life estate, or appreciated property or securities. Parishioners who include the parish in their estate plans become members of the John Hamilton Gillespie Society, which is named after one of the founding members of Redeemer and the first mayor of Sarasota. To learn more, please contact Redeemer Bookkeeper Debbie Pfender by calling the parish office at 941-955-4263 or emailing her at DPfender@RedeemerSarasota.org or speak to Redeemer Rector Father Charleston Wilson.
